SO 5: Build counter power with the most affected groups

CIVICUS supports solidary actions through campaigns, networks and convenings such as:

  • Campaigns: Ongoing campaign and engagements such as #StandAsMyWitness and WeRISE! responding to civic space emergencies as they arise and supporting grassroots movements in their efforts to protect and promote the right to FoPA.
  • Networks: CIVICUS enables Vuka! Coalition for Civic Action, Youth Action Team, the Affinity Group of National Association (AGNA) and the CIVICUS Member Online Community networks to build, strengthen and better coordinate civic society.
  • Convenings: Civil society coming together to work on civic space issues through events such as International Civil Society Week (ICSW), Membership Engagement Month and Digital Action Lab. We also connect civil society with each other through Solidary Missions and the Defender and Diplomats Dialogues.

How we will measure progress:

Learning question:

Proxy indicators:
# of thematic reports
Target: 4
Additional: # of MOUs signed for CIVICUS coordinated convenings

Succeed in creating space for CSO demands and positions***
Target 60

***Statements, letter, and resolutions negotiated in Geneva with UN bodies

CIVICUS’ convening role continues to be highlighted by partners. Specifically, ICSW has contributed to connections among participants that have endured in the long terms and led to collaboration with new stakeholders and partners. The collaborative approach in the design and implementation is one of the main value propositions of the event. Identifying, empowering and mobilising the right people is seen as one of ICSW’s strengths. But sustained engagement after the event is a key area we will focus on with ICSW 2025 design and implementation.

This is a test.
