Activism And Aids
Civil society has an essential role to play in ending the AIDS epidemic. This report explores the main challenges faced by organisations and activists in providing life-changing treatments, delivering education programs, and advocating for policies that protect vulnerable communities. In particular, this study examines the main civic space challenges facing civil society in its HIV/AIDS response; the factors that make certain groups more vulnerable to violations; and the perpetrators of attacks and restrictions.
This report is the result of a two-year research project undertaken jointly by CIVICUS, The Partnership to Inspire, Transform and Connect the HIV response (PITCH), aidsfonds, Fronline Aids, and The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The research included fieldwork in four countries, Ukraine, Zimbabwe, Indonesia and Vietnam. The report provides a comparative look at civic freedoms in these countries, as well as an assessment at the intergovernmental level for those fighting to end HIV and AIDS. | Executive Summary
