Our external commitment to those most affected must also be reflected in CIVICUS’s internal systems and processes. To enable the successful delivery of our strategy, we will undertake the following institutional strengthening and accountability practices.
Resilient systems: We are strengthening cybersecurity and audit readiness, modernising devices for a globally distributed workforce and cleaning up our Microsoft 365 environment to reduce duplication and improve collaboration. We are also introducing workflow automation and AI-assisted tools to reduce manual processes and establishing quarterly check-ins to keep programmes and finances aligned.
Resilient finances: We are automating financial reporting to give budget holders real-time access to accurate data and reduce the pressure that slow reporting cycles create. Better budgeting and variance analysis, developed in closer collaboration with those responsible for delivery, will prevent the overspends and underspends that cost us credibility with funders. Improved cash flow monitoring will support financial stability at a time when the external funding environment is under strain.
Resilient people: We are shifting HR from reactive case management to earlier, more proactive engagement. This means investing in coaching, more consistent performance conversations and leadership development across the organisation. Values and people management cannot be HR’s responsibility alone, so we are working to embed them in how managers lead day to day. We are also digitising HR processes to reduce administrative burdens and free up time for higher-value support.
Learning and growing impact: We are replacing fixed annual targets with quarterly reviews that allow us to revisit priorities and adjust course in real time. Reporting to funders and internal reporting will shift from compliance documentation to analysis that actively informs decisions. We are strengthening knowledge management so that learning is captured and shared across programmes rather than lost when projects close. We are also beginning the process of developing our organisational strategy for 2028-2032.
